Russia has been advancing in the northeast, near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city and Zelensky has asked the West for greater assistance.
Recently, the US congress finally passed a bill allowing for additional shipments of weapons but this was after a painful 6 months delay. Painful because fewer weapons meant lessened ability to resist the invading Russians and a greater number of Ukrainian dead.
Backed against the wall, Zelensky is asking the US to do two things:
One — allow Ukraine to use US intelligence to identify targets inside Russia that they would then seek to destroy.
Two — give Ukraine permission to fire American weapons into Russia. Up till now, the US has insisted the weapons be used only inside Ukraine’s territory, conscious of Putin’s warning that their use inside Russia equates with the US becoming a third party in the conflict.
The sanctions that the US imposed on Russia sought to isolate her. But Putin has found a way to avoid them by getting China to supply nearly everything they need.
By doing so China has enabled the killing of thousands of Ukrainians. So they have become a third party in the conflict.
We have yet to tell China, ‘Stop it!’
Russia, meanwhile, also gets weapons from North Korea and Iran to use inside Ukraine.
So Russia is free to use other nations’ weapons against Ukraine but Ukraine is forbidden to do the same against Russia…
