The killing of Hamas’ political leader in Iran, where he’d gone for the inauguration of their new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, was a bold Israeli move.
A few days before, rockets fired by Hezbollah killed a dozen children in Israeli occupied Golan Heights, while they played in a soccer field.
Hezbollah might be thinking that the intense presidential political campaign in the US might distract America.
It won’t.
Biden, back to being fully focused on doing his presidential work, will do what he must to assist Israel.
The stalemate in the Gaza negotiations between Hamas and Israel has harmed Palestinians more than Israel.
Iran’s stirring up its proxies — Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthis in Yemen — won’t make Israel agree to a bad deal.
Russia and China won’t come to Iran’s aid and, by themselves, Iranians will not go into a war with Israel.
But they will keep getting Hezbollah and Houthis to fire their rockets hoping to slowly erode Israel’s commitment. It will not.
There’s no alternative for Israel. To win is the only option.
It’s hard to say how the Gaza talks will end. But as events develop, it seems to me that Palestinians have lost support and Iran and its proxies will back off.
Someone needs to tell them that they cannot win.
It will save them lives and resources.
The party that can hold out the longest will win. I’m betting on Israel.
