War Choices — Falling Short

In Ukraine –
The West as a whole, has failed to sufficiently back up Ukraine in its heroic resistance against Putin.
Again and again, President Zelensky has pleaded with us that we give him authority to use the long range armaments we’ve provided him with, to fire back at Russian positions inside Russia, from where Putin unleashes barrage after barrage of his missiles.
But we refuse to grant Zelensky that permission.
The weapons Putin fires from behind his borders destroy military and civilian targets in Ukraine resulting in immense losses.
This is a most unfair advantage that Putin has in his war with Ukraine.
From the very beginning, Putin’s dangled before us the treat of nuclear retaliation.
Have we been intimidated? Yes.
And to our detriment, we seem to have grown comfortable with that position.
We — the West — also put economic sanctions on Putin but he sidesteps them through his alliance with China without which the war would not have lasted this long.
We have not confronted China in a firm manner.
So we have been intimidated by China also.
It’s clear we didn’t learn our lesson from Putin’s annexation of Crimea — Ukrainian territory — 10 years ago, while Obama was president. We just let him get away with it.
Our inaction then, and our limited actions now, reveal that our political resolve to deal with our adversaries’ transgressions has degraded.
