The importance of Ukraine winning the war is such that the thought of negotiations to end the conflict should be the last option to consider.
So long as Ukraine is willing to continue putting out the enormous courage they have shown, the West’s commitment to their victory should be total.
But talk of appeasement — disguised in various forms — is under way.
‘Let’s see what China can do by talking to Zelensky,’ will say some.
But China’s role in such approach will be nothing but a dilatory tactic. They’re clearly on Putin’s side and don’t give a damn about Ukraine.
China does not want Putin to lose because it will encourage internal dissent in Russia and the possibility of a new government less averse to the West, a possibility the paranoid China is frightened of.
Any effort to divide the western alliance is what China is interested in, as they think ahead to preserving access to Europe’s markets and to fracturing a western front for when the time comes to invade Taiwan. Not if they invade but when they invade.
Much has been done by the West to aid Ukraine but more needs to be done because this war can and should be won.
So let us give Ukraine a clear incentive to push back Russia to behind its borders.
And do it now.
The incentive is this — push back Russia to behind its borders and the West will grant you immediate membership in NATO, with all its security guarantees.
European Union membership can wait, but…
