Amazing how not too long ago, Russia was the big monster no one could mess with.
They would growl and the sphincters of nations would loosen, collectively, that’s how intimidating the world thought Russians were.
And it could have lasted. But like all bullies, they had to push their hand.
‘So let us bully someone, just to keep in shape’ they said to themselves.
‘Have to keep scaring folks to stay trim’.
‘Oh, the joy of inflicting pain on others, and since we have the backing of mighty China and their visionary leader, Xi Jinping, a man committed to blocking the freedom of other human beings, for he has found the answers already, why not pick on Ukraine? Yes, that’s it.’
And Russia salivated at the prospect of trampling on their neighbor, cruising into Kyiv since they imagined they would surely crown the divine Putin, that celestial human being, as lord and master of that land.
It all played out smoothly in their cramped little minds.
But something went wrong.
Ukraine said No.
Not too long ago, Zelensky was the leader of a nation known for its corruption in public affairs, apparently destined to never emerge, and forever live in the shadows of other nations.
But something had been slowly stirring in their eastern territories, which they had been stubbornly defending against predatory Russian loyalists.
Something about that struggle had been hardening the nation’s resolve.
Putin missed it.
