The Three Horsemen and The Nation

Biden, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, atop of their horses, ride up toward the edge of a very wide and steep canyon, coming to a halt right next to the precipice.
They’ve been here before.
Biden is at the center, wearing a white hat. Clinton and Obama wear black hats.
It’s a bright sunny morning.
Their horses’ neigh.
They now lean forward to take in the majestic view below.
Way, way down, at the bottom of the canyon, there’s a multitude of people going on about their business. It’s the people of the United States.
‘Wow… what a sight,’ says Clinton.
‘Indeed. So what’s the deal?’ asks Biden, settling back on his mount.
‘That’s what we want to know,’ returns Obama.
‘I won’t be pushed out,’ affirms Biden.
‘No one wants to push you out,’ replies Clinton, ‘But you’re doddering.’
‘Doddering?’ answers Biden with wounded expression.
‘Yes, you are,’ adds Obama, ‘and you’re telling us to put up with it for another four years.’
‘Just because of your ego,’ puts in Clinton.
Biden now smiles. ‘None of you had said a goddamn thing about it until the debate. All this time I’ve been doddering, as you say, neither of you said shit about it, and I was doddering in front of the whole world. So what changed?’
‘You’ve got a point,’ says Obama, feeling chastened.
‘Barack is right, and that’s on us,’ adds Clinton.
‘The doddering got worse?’ asks Biden.
‘A lot worse,’ presses Obama.
‘But you called it a bad night, didn’t you?’ says…
