The Selling Out of Ukraine Has Begun

President Trump spoke of having had a long conversation with Putin, and that the Russian said he was willing to start talks aimed at ending the war.
Mr Trump added that the two had extended invitations to visit each other’s countries.
So there it is.
Putin, who started the war with Ukraine to conquer the neighbor country and is responsible for thousands and thousands of deaths — Ukrainian, Russian and North Korean — will now be rewarded with a visit to America.
In his mind, such visit would help restore his credibility.
Somehow, it all makes sense to Trump.
Kicking out the Palestinians in Gaza to build hotels for affluent tourists, taking over Greenland, threatening Panama over the Canal, considering annexing Canada. And more to come.
But the Russian is not impressed.
He knows Trump is desperate for attention. Desperate to take credit for ending the war. He couldn’t do it in 24 hours as he had promised but he will do it in a few weeks.
Putin just needs to wait him out and he will get what he wants.
He’s already seeing the signs. Eager negotiators for Trump are talking of denying Ukraine’s access to NATO membership, since it would upset Putin. While Russia gets to keep all the land they’ve conquered.
As to security guarantees to dissuade Putin to invade once again, Trump seems to believe the Russian’s word will be enough.
