Will it decide the election?
It might.
The point is to convince Americans that they are the cause of most of your problems. That they take jobs from us, that they increase our crime rate, that they cost too much and they make our land ugly.
So why allow them in?
Were most Americans once immigrants?
Yes, but — that was another time.
And they came from Europe. From White countries, which made it acceptable.
It’s the brown factor that complicates matters.
And that’s an issue that we keep having trouble with.
Trump has seized on it and made it central to his campaign.
Mass deportations are promised right after he takes office.
And it will be a sight to see.
Long lines of Army trucks and buses taking people back south of the border.
He implies that then we’ll feel better. Relieved that we’ve finally begun to de-brown our land.
That we will be cleansing ourselves. The wall with Mexico will grow taller…
Etc.
And I’m tired of the issue.
Because it’s pure nonsense.
We have been able to move forward as a nation because of our capacity to transform the immigrant. All immigrants.
At first we hang on to our customs but gradually we take in the values of this land.
In the process we’re culturally enriched. All of us.
With cultural enrichment comes growing tolerance of the other. No matter our differences.
Because everyone has something to offer if allowed opportunities to develop.
