Prigozhin Rattles Russia

Yesterday, Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the mercenary group Wagner, revolted against Russia’s generals Shoigu and Gerasimov, defense minister and Chief of staff respectively, claiming his troops had been attacked and killed by the Russian military.
Under Prigozhin, the Wagner group has played a leading role in the battle against Ukraine.
He claims that Shoigu and Gerasimov have misled Putin, misrepresenting the facts on the ground to fool Putin while adding that Ukraine never was a source of provocation for Russia.
In response to the attacks on his troops, Prigozhin occupied Russia’s military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don, which oversee the offensive in Ukraine, and began an advance on Moscow.
Putin was noticeably silent about the developments until he made a statement today calling Prigozhin’s actions ‘a knife in the back’ of the nation.
This morning we also read that Belarusian president and Putin ally, Lukashenko, had mediated a truce between Prigozhin and Putin and that Prigozhin would halt his march on Moscow.
All along we have known that the mere fact that Putin had relied on a mercenary group to fight for his nation was a sign of weakness.
The Wagner group has fought in Syria to support the brutal dictator Assad in return for a share of the profits from his oil fields. Additionally, Prigozhin’s group has been very active in Africa where they help repressive regimes stay in power in exchange for a share of their mineral…
