Pretty bad. Depressing.
But he won and took the Senate and the House of Representatives also.
So, what happened?
Democrats made a few costly mistakes and Trump’s style appealed to a majority.
The Democrats’ mistakes:
One — After Biden was knocked around by Trump in their debate on June 27th this year, he should’ve taken pause, replayed the debate and faced the truth — he was no longer up to it. He had beat Trump in 2020 but four years later he was not the same man. But he refused to see it and valuable time was lost. The people around him, failed him too.
The evidence of Biden’s decline was so overwhelming that Democrats scrambled to replace him. Still, it took many days before Biden consented to Harris’ stepping up and it wouldn’t be till September 10th, that she would take the stage to debate Trump. By then more than 10 valuable weeks had passed.
Harris beat Trump soundly in their debate and got a bump in her ratings for it, but then she failed to build on it.
Two — Biden didn’t give the border issue sufficient importance. That was a huge mistake.
Trump had been banging on the issue since before winning his first term in 2016 and he just kept beating that drum all these years.
Biden didn’t hear the sound. Neither did Harris. A peculiar deafness came to afflict them.
