Immigrating to China? Good luck
To the US? There’s a long waiting line but that doesn’t keep people from trying.
Some people brave all kinds of difficulties, even put their lives in jeopardy to get a chance to come over.
Is there civic turmoil in China like there is here in America? No.
Everything is peaceful in China, or so it seems.
What the Communist party says is what goes. Okay if you’re in with the party but otherwise, not good.
I have an acquaintance who came to the US from China a few years ago. Before landing here she had been to several European countries. Still, she persisted.
She’s probably in her mid forties, works as a security guard, takes English classes at night, and is committed to keeping at it.
‘There’s no homelessness in China, like you see around here’ she says. ‘They get picked up. It’s safe in China, too.’ (not safe enough for the 10 year old Japanese student who got stabbed to death a few days ago)
We run into each other now and then but I’ve yet to hear her say that she wants to go back.
China has accomplished a lot and there are plenty of talented and creative people in that land. They draw from a huge genetic pool — 1.4 billion — to fuel their productivity.
Still, China has trouble getting along with their neighbors India and the Philippines.
Why? China has difficulty tolerating difference.
