Joe Biden comes through!
From his home in Delaware where he was isolating as he recovered from a bout with Covid, he stuns the nation announcing his dropping out of the race for reelection.
In a beautifully written letter, he states ‘I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term’.
Thank you, Mr Biden. We are indeed grateful for all you’ve done and still will do during the rest of your term.
You can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best of our Presidents because of all the good work you’ve done. We always knew you were fully devoted to the task and that you took great pride in the responsibility you had been assigned.
If you hesitated for 24 days before making the announcement to stand down, we know they were harrowing days when you struggled with the conviction that you could still deliver and the reality that advancing age was exacting a heavy price.
If we criticized you for taking time to reach your fateful decision, we never devalued the good work you’d done for our nation.
Thank you for being you, thank you for your love and dedication to our country.
Thank you for your humanity.
With your decision, you turn this election around.
With only 107 days to ballot day, we democrats must now get to work to select the best choice we can muster and we will do so in an open manner.
