I was saddened to read of your using drugs. And how leaders in your companies fear your drug use may affect the business.
They have ample reason to be worried.
You cannot beat the drugs. They will beat you.
You have a fine brain, though some think there’s more hype than substance.
But I’ll give you that you have a fine brain.
What I can’t give you is that your brain will improve its output by your using drugs.
It won’t.
The drugs win always.
They damage the brain. Damage the wonderful connections that enable you to have your good ideas.
But something has gone wrong that you decided to use drugs.
Maybe the praise was too much. The adulation, the circus of it. And you felt that it wasn’t enough to be in the news nearly every day. ‘Musk said this, or that. He’s meeting prime minister Meloni of Italy. He’s meeting Netanyahu of Israel. Tesla increases deliveries of their vehicles. Space X will take us to the moon. Next will be Mars. Star Link is helping the war in Ukraine.’ And on and on.
And you thought, ‘I have to do more. To keep them excited. To keep them loving me so.’
That’s what gets you started. The grandiosity. The not putting it in perspective and taking a pause to acknowledge those many others who have contributed to what you’ve done.
Without them you wouldn’t have what you have.
Do me a favor and hold your breath. How long can you hold it? Not long, right?
That’s how fragile and vulnerable we are. All of us.
We need each other. We…
