It’s not going away until he undergoes testing. Then, if he clears that hurdle, as I suspect he will, the task will be to educate the American public as to the effects of aging on memory and our functional capacity.
Peggy Noonan, a seasoned columnist with the WSJ, wrote a recent opinion where she pointed out that in 1968, it wasn’t until March 30th that Lyndon Johnson announced that he would not be seeking reelection. So it is not too late for Democrats to have an open contest, should Biden fail a memory test.
Furthermore, she added, whatever delegates Biden wins during the primaries now in progress, could be released by the President at the time of the convention and the party then have an open convention.
I don’t think that Trump will beat a democratic candidate, but that’s not what the polls are showing.
In 2016 we were all shocked that Trump beat Hillary Clinton.
In the years since, Trump has shown more of his colors and how unfit he is to preside over the nation but for many of us it was very clear back then.
In the meantime, and sadly for the nation, Trump has gained adherents.
Ms Noonan also reminded us that Obama had dissuaded Biden, then Vice President, from running for the nomination in 2016. The fact that his son Beau had died on May 30th of 2015 and that such loss was a heavy burden for Biden, may have been the main reason behind such advice.
Or, perhaps, Obama just didn’t think that Joe had what it took…
