Israelis had been in Palestine before — as recorded in the bible — and at the beginning of the last century started to make the journey back.
The Palestinians in Palestine made room for them.
Slowly, though, the differences between the two groups began to appear.
The Jews had been out in the world, had battled a thousand battles, and in the process developed themselves in a thousand ways.
The Palestinians had mostly stayed home.
When conflicts began between the two, Jews held an edge. And they used it.
They were in the minority but managed to prevail.
The struggle for land was crucial and Israelis asserted themselves and pushed back the Palestinians.
Under pressure, Palestinians called on their fellow Arabs to help them out. Their fellow Arabs did.
Several large scale wars followed and the Arab side didn’t win a single one. Israelis beat them back every time.
Gradually, most of the Arab nations who had supported Palestinians, began to see the light.
Fighting the Israelis was not the way to go about it. They were better at war.
But Palestinians disagreed.
The accumulated rage over the years had affected them and now could not think clearly.
Such rage led to a toxic relationship between Palestinians and Hamas, their leaders.
I say toxic because Palestinians agreed to be human shields for Hamas.
